Eco-design: The Winners of Our Call for Projects 1920 1080 admin-Leko

In accordance with the commitments it made as part of its accreditation, Léko offers its members annual support for eco-design to help reduce the environmental impact of their packaging.

In practical terms, eco-design means taking into account all the issues related to reducing, reusing, and recycling packaging even before it is designed. Once placed on the market, eco-designed packaging should help reduce the amount of waste generated, be reusable, or be fully recyclable.

To this end, Léko offers financial support to its members through calls for proposals, enabling them to fund all or part of projects related to the eco-design of their packaging.

Projects eligible for funding from Léko must focus exclusively on household packaging and paper, and contribute to the reduction, reuse, and recycling targets set by regulations; for example: reducing the weight of packaging, reducing the number of units per package, switching to single-material packaging, etc.

Of all the applications received in 2025, 7 projects were selected and received financial support from Léko:

For the food industry:

  • A research project on new packaging materials suitable for food use
  • A pilot test to introduce cardboard packaging as a replacement for plastic food trays
  • A pilot test of single-material packaging for food trays, as a replacement for complex packaging
  • A market study on replacing single-serving portions with larger sizes
  • A pilot test of lid packaging with a 50% reduction in plastic

For the non-food sector:

  • Reducing the amount of paper used in mail-order catalogs
  • A pilot test of refillable packaging in the cosmetics industry

For 2026, Léko launched its call for projects in early May. The application deadline was Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The winners will be announced in September.
