As a partnerof Under The Pole, Léko attended the event held at the Maison de l’Océan to see footage from their latest expedition to Antarctica.
It was a chance to reconnect with the teams and scientists and to discuss this adventure, which we had followed through a series of videos on our social media channels.
For three months, 14 crew members lived aboard the WHY,Under The Pole’s sailboat. Among other activities, they conducted dives in the mesophotic zone to study marine biodiversity and better understand the effects of climate change on these ecosystems.
This project is part ofUnder The Pole’s underwater exploration program, which combines scientific research, innovation, and public outreach to advance our understanding of and help preserve the oceans.
In the videos we shared on our social media channels, we highlighted another aspect of the expedition: day-to-day resource and waste management.
Before setting sail, preparing for three months of self-sufficiency means planning ahead for supplies and minimizing packaging. At sea, with no opportunity to dispose of waste, the waste from consumed products remains on board: the crew must sort it, organize its storage, and minimize the volume of waste produced as much as possible.
These actions are in line with Léko’s mission: to reduce packaging at the source, prioritize reuse, and sort the packaging we do use properly.
By supporting Under The Pole, Léko helps fund expeditions that promote a better understanding of marine ecosystems and share this knowledge with as many people as possible.
Thank you to theUnder The Pole team for this invitation, the discussions with the scientists, and their commitment to ocean conservation.
