Help build a national test protocol to assess the reusability of glass bottles!

Léko is developing a unified testing protocol to assess the reusability of glass bottles. The aim of this protocol is to establish a consensus on a common method for characterizing reusable bottles.
The work carried out will serve as a basis for the creation of a future AFNOR standard, in consultation with the Emballages standardization committee and CETIE.

By taking part, you'll be helping to shape tomorrow's reuse guidelines, drive forward industrial practices and accelerate the transition to a fully circular glass industry in France.

A collaborative and experimental approach

The system is based on two complementary test loops:

  • Real-life tests carried out by reuse operators.
  • Laboratory tests carried out in collaboration with glassmakers.

The results from each loop will be mutually enriching, guaranteeing a complete, rigorous and operational approach to the protocol. In this way, glassmakers will be able to characterize a reusable bottle according to a protocol based on feedback from real reuse loops, without having to call in a reuse operator.

By taking part, you'll be helping to shape tomorrow's reuse guidelines, drive forward industrial practices and accelerate the transition to a fully circular glass industry in France.

Who can participate?

Glassmakers: Participation in the project is open to all glassmakers marketing glass bottles in France, subject to compliance with the criteria defined in the specifications. Their main roles include in particular to:

  • Provide bottle references from their catalog for testing.
  • Carry out laboratory tests in accordance with specifications.
  • Contribute their technical glass expertise to help the project evolve.

➡ Reemployment operators:Operators wishing to participate must submit their application by November 28 at the latest under the dedicated Call for Tenders, by sending their application to: reemploi@leko-organisme.fr

The role(s) of the selected Re-use Operator(s) will be to :

  • Carry out tests under real-life conditions.
  • Produce deliverables to document results.
  • Contribute their expertise in the field to help the project evolve.

Léko is responsible for the overall coordination of the project and the selection of reemployment operators.

How to get involved

Participation in the project is open to all glassmakers at any time, subject to compliance with and signature of the specifications.

The participation of re-employment operators is reserved for those selected at the end of the invitation to tender, after examination of their application. It also implies the signature of the specifications before the start of the tests.

In a nutshell:

Are you a glassmaker?

- Specifications: full description of project and conditions of participation. To be signed and returned to reemploi@leko-organisme.fr for inclusion in group meetings.

Are you an operator?

- Specifications: full description of project and conditions of participation. To be signed and returned to reemploi@leko-organisme.fr.

- Call for tender: Selection of one or more reuse operators capable of carrying out complete tests on glass bottles under real conditions, in order to produce the data needed to draw up the protocol.

- Application file : Excel template to be completed and sent no later than November 28, 2025 to reemploi@leko-organisme.fr, together with the signed specifications.

All participants must have signed the specifications in order to take part in the project.

Why take part?

Joining this project means :

- Contribute actively to the definition of a technical standard for glass reuse in France.

- Participate in a collective approach to structuring the industry, supported by standardization bodies.

- Leverage your company's industrial expertise within a recognized collaborative framework.

- Take part in the transition to a circular and sustainable packaging model.

Your participation will reinforce the representativeness of the protocol and ensure its nationwide adoption.

Léko's ambition with this project is to :

- Define a common protocol to guarantee the technical conformity and quality of reusable bottles.

- Promote the creation of harmonized standards within the industry.

- Contribute actively to the standardization of reuse through bodies such as AFNOR.

To take part in the project, send the signed specifications along with your application by November 28, 2025 at the latest to the following address: reemploi@leko-organisme.fr
